What is RD 1215/97 and who does it affect?

Royal Decree 1215/1997 sets the minimum health and safety requirements for the use of work equipment by employees. It applies to all machinery in service at a company, regardless of age or whether it carries CE marking.

It affects any employer who provides work equipment to their staff: manufacturing, construction, logistics, food processing, workshops, and more. The goal is to ensure machinery remains safe throughout its working life.

Non-compliance can lead to Labour Inspectorate requirements, equipment being shut down, and financial penalties, as well as increased employer liability in the event of an accident.
